Reggae, the sierra Madre del sur, allergies and wrong turns

wow long title,On the 21st we decided it would be our last day , then we will head straight back to texas to clean the sun. But after a nice midnight chat with some fellow campers (thanks Natalie and Valentin)we decided to end our trip to Mexico with a big bang- a reggea festival the following night. After some last shopping , sad goodbys with Bode , Angela and Jason we headed in to the mountains. Suddenly our Oiltemperature started to rise like crazy. so pull over and check a loose hose?
It seemed to work until about half an hour later. Stuck again, this tiome we changed our newly aquired distributer cap back to the old one and whiole doing that pulled some wires and broke a part off a sparkplug holder. This lead to the actual problem. A wire not connected properly within. fixed it and off into the mountains again. after soem twisty turns finally found the village and Festival. Same place same time there was also a rodeo which we missed ( bad timing ). By this time unfortunately Natalie had developed quite some reaction to Lucas anti mosquito spray that we had putr on him the day before and she ended having to go to a ghospital. Which syupprisinggly enough existed in this little mountain village and quite a good one at that. They took good care of her there, while we enjoyed the music. It was all pretty good, the ska influenced one was clearly the best I thought but we got a bit of everything. It's good that most mexicansd are not very tall, this is the fisrt time I could even stand in the back row and have a pretty good view of the band ( which doies not happen to me often)and in general it was fun to watch the (alternative) youth of mexico.
Anyway- the next day we said goodby to our friends Natalie and Valentin (they had to go back to Oaxaca) and started off to cross the sierra madre a second time. With a lot of good intentions and asjking the way we were in a prteey good mood. But after a couple of hours we ended in a village that was way off and turned out to be pretty much a dead end, besides a dirt road accross the mountains . After some discussion the villagers decided it would take us about 4 hours to cross. The road was very beautiful and sceneic, but there where not a lot of people to ask if we were going the right way, and sometimes we stood at a cross road wondering what to do. After 7 -8 hopurs just for sundown we finally arrived at a paved road , big relief and decided to camp right there ...
We left Mexico after some cruel days of straight forward driving, crossed in to Texas and just spent the WE in New Orleans. I liked it there, maybe we should move down there. We met some Servas hosts and stayed with Carol for the night - we got a night out - yeah!!!, Now we are haeding towards South Carolina and then up up up to Maine.
more later

OK I'm giving up on the pics, taking to long I'll try again somewhere else

  1. Glad you finally made it out of the mountains, and out of being lost. I know exactly the feeling: there was a time we were similarly lost driving around Costa Rica, on a road that was called the "Monkey Highway", but was really just a dirt road, with tons of crossroads that had no signs or markings. We would sit there trying to decide which way to go, and sometimes of course made the wrong choice. It took us 4 hrs to go just 50 km. And it was a bit frustrating. Finding a paved road, and signs (!) again, was a great relief, so I think I know how you felt.

Enjoy your drive up the east coast! :-)
